When most people think of "healthy" foods, they think of vegetables. They are right. Yet in the same thought process most people will squirm with speculation as to whether or not they can eat these nutrient rich foods in a way that they enjoy. That speculation is about to end as fast as you can say Bok Choy!
What's nutrient-rich eating? Just consider a 100 Calorie Pack of Hostess Twinkie Bites. Sure, it only contains 100 calories, 2.5 grams fat, 1 gram saturated fat and 160 milligrams of sodium in three tiny cakes, but what kind of nutritional reward do you get for that 100-calorie investment?
There are "health retreats," and then there's Dr. Fuhrman's Health Getaway! (where I just spent that last 7 days in gastronomic bliss :) Where most health getaways promote eating plans that are hard to follow, lack a scientific foundation, and in the end don't even make sense (try eating like that when you get home!), Dr. Fuhrman's Health Getaway was the exact opposite.
The menus were grounded in the latest research in eating for health, giving us all "hang-your-hat-on-it " confidence that the science behind what we were eating was as correct and as it was delicious.
That was my experience this past week. It was good to spend time having fun, and not worrying about the consequences of what I just ate.
When it comes to "healthy eating," there's no shortage of information about what that means. But there is a shortage of *research*. Too often, health claims about various foods are woefully unsupported by reliable research. That's why I'm so excited about this blog post announcing the launch of Dr. Fuhrman's Nutritional Research Project, which will study how different diets can help you prevent, or even reverse, disease.

They promise success and freedom, but don't deliver anything but short term weight loss. And that is trap! For anyone wanting to lose weight, without changing their lifestyle, they will fall for short term weight loss strategies all the time.
