Meet Banana Sam

August 7, 2010

Banana Sam, this guy is rich in more than just potassium, but in an array of nutrients. Yeah this guy is hi GI (Glycemic Index) and proud of it! That's why you eat bananas for quick energy from health promoting sugar. He's also struttin' his stuff because he also knows he's a mainstay in millions of smoothies every day.

Meet the Karote Kid

August 7, 2010

The Karote Kid is kickin' because he's getting way more than carotene's in those carrots and all the other vegetables, fruits, beans, raw nuts and seeds and whole grains he's eating. He's getting all the nutrients he needs to stay health, perform and succeed.

You Don’t Have to Be Vegan for Meatless Monday’s

July 27, 2010

A new study published in Global Environmental Change shows by cutting meat and dairy consumption by 25 percent, we could reduce two greenhouse gases by 80 percent. This is a big, honking deal. So if you're thinking about moving to a more plant-based diet, welcome aboard and thanks for helping the environment. You'll be helping your wallet, too, because plant-based protein is cheaper than most animal protein, and you'll be helping yourself -- plant-based protein is low in fat and contains zero cholesterol.

But first, as you watch this, keep these 3 myths and untruths in mind that we'll get into in greater detail in future posts:

DrFuhrman’s Health Getaway 2010 Pictures

July 20, 2010

There are "health retreats," and then there's Dr. Fuhrman's Health Getaway! (where I just spent that last 7 days in gastronomic bliss :) Where most health getaways promote eating plans that are hard to follow, lack a scientific foundation, and in the end don't even make sense (try eating like that when you get home!), Dr. Fuhrman's Health Getaway was the exact opposite. The menus were grounded in the latest research in eating for health, giving us all "hang-your-hat-on-it " confidence that the science behind what we were eating was as correct and as it was delicious. That was my experience this past week. It was good to spend time having fun, and not worrying about the consequences of what I just ate.
